Approaching web commerce differently

Most commerce sites treat the storefront as the product and the checkout as plumbing. We flipped that: the checkout is where trust is won or lost, so that's where the design effort went first.

Start where the money changes hands

A few things fell out of designing the checkout before anything else:

  • Every field had to justify its existence — we shipped with four.
  • The order summary became a live component, not a static recap.
  • Error states were designed before happy paths.

The checkout is the only page where the visitor is doing you a favour. Act like it.
